Algorithm competition

In this year, I’ve participated algorithm competitions constantly, especially TopCoder’s SRM.

TopCoder SRM

I’ve been able to compete almost matches throughout a year. And practiced at least one problem for each week. Hence, I think the most nice thing for me is that I could work for SRM constantly throughout this year. And then I could achieve to beceme a blue coder and advance to div1. I feel nice for it.

Google Code Jam

Also participated Google Code Jam. The result is that I’ve lost the match at Round1. Usually I’m joining TopCoder SRM and Code Jam is differ from this, for instance time limit of GCJ is longer than SRM, or permitted program language. Because of this differences It’s useful for me to take part in GCJ. I’ve uploaded source code of GCJ 2009 to Github.

Development, etc

Google Summer of Code

Google Summer of Code – Google Code
In this summer I’ve participated Google Summer of Code 2009 (GSoC). Joined SWIG project and implemented a perl binding for Xapian (one of search engine library) using SWIG. And achieved to finish the the project. Here is a report of SWIG’s summer of code.

Attending Conferences

Started to attend to conferences or workshops from this year. Especially whose about HTML5 by html5-developers-jp (japanese group of HTML5).

Here in Tokyo, many conferences or workshops are held everyday very actively. For the evidence, this is a google calender of IT related workshops in japan.

I’m live in Tokyo, so it’s very effective to join the workshops.

Miscellaneous

This year many my gadgets are apple-nized. Bought MacBook, iMac, iPhone and iPod all in this year.

Started tweeting on twitter actively. Created a account one or two yars ago but using it actively from this year.
Kosei Moriyama (cou929) on Twitter

Currently joining to student development team of Mozilla Japan, developing firefox extension.

Goal of next year

More large size project

Except for GSoC, been joining only for small size project. I’d like to larger size project such as built any software, launch web service and so on.

Become a Red Coder

I’m now blue coder, rating is 1240, and if achieve rating 2200 I can become a red coder. It’s very hard. Also in addition to SRM, would like to join other competitions such as TopCoder’s marathon match, Project Euler, Code chef or some Online Judges.

I’ve borrowed the camel book, programming perl third edition, from library of univ.
Japanese edition of camel book is separated two books.
Therefore it’s quite heavy.

By the way, very good desk accessory from MUJI, Clear Stickiest – 5 Color.
This is a label to stick to book.
It’s unique point is that it’s body is clear.
So content of book is readable when it’s sticked to the book.
And it’s selection of 5 colors is smart.
