I’ve found out the very old mixtape when I was cleaning my PC. In March 2004, I was a high school student, very nostalgic. So I make it come back here again by currently web technology, mixing those by 8tracks.

I think in that time, I really love to listen pop and emotional songs. In those days, a serial publication named “坂本麻里子の今月の琴線 (Heartstrings of this month by Maiko Sakamoto)” is published in Rocking-On, one of the most popular rock magazine in Japan. I’ve really been loving this series. I’ve found out Ben Kweller via this article. I’ve been repeating kweller’s album heavily in those days. And now, I’d like to describe about The Bens. The bens is a collaboration project by three bens, Ben Folds, Ben Lee and Ben Kweller! The release only one EP but it’s quality was very high. All of them is super star for me in that time so I’ve very excited.
I’ve liked The Strokes’s “IS THIS IT”. I think first half of 00s was there age. Also I like coral, it is very fond memory for me.
I’ll also go to this year’s Summer Sonic!

Today I bought a ticket of this year’s SUMMER SONIC 2009. Summer Sonic is one of the most popular summer rock festival in Japan. We often call it “サマソニ (sama-soni)” after abbreviate of it’s full phrase.
Summer Sonic is very urban-style rock festival. It’s held at Makuhari messe, Chiba city. Makuhari messe is very large convention center. Therefore in messe’s live space, always air-conditioner is working and there are enough number of clean rest room. And it’s location is close to tokyo, it takes about 30 minutes from Tokyo by JR train Keiyo line. So there are many hotel around messe.
Opposite to Summer Sonic, Fuji Rock Festival — another most popular rock fes in Japan — is outdoor-style and very close to nature. Since it’s held at Mt.Naeba, Nigata, of course there are no air-conditioner and almost participants need to camping. And it takes about 1.5 hour from tokyo by Joetsu Shinkansen. But these points becomes great appeal point of Fuji Rock and fascinates a lot of participants every year (I am one of them:) ).
So, from this year, Summer Sonic will hold thee days. It’s been held two days till last year. However I’ll go only one day, 8/9 (sun) because there are little bands i have interest in another two days. Bands I’d love to see in 8/9 are Teenage Fanclub, Sonic Youth and The Flaming Lips! Sonic Youth’s new album “the eternal” is very cool. And especially, The Flaming Lips has came to Japan before and I can’t forget fantastic live performance of them in that time.

Today I decided to go this year’s Fuji Rock Festival. This is 6th times participation for me. I’ve been going it every year from 2004.
Fuji Rock Festival is most popular rock festival in Japan. Hold at Naeba ski resort, Nigata, Japan. It’s natural and very clean location, I love that place.
The name “Fuji” is named after “Mount Fuji”, highest mountain in Japan. However Naeba is not close to mount Fuji, there is no relation between Naeba and Fuji. Fuji Rock have been held at Fuji Tenjin-yama ski resort only one time (first time of the festival in 1997). And from next year the location of fes is moved.
This year’s artist lineup and time schedule is announced here. I’m looking forward to see GONG, Tortoise, Bright Eyes and Animal Collective, especially. But unfortunately, according to that time schedule, Tortoise and GONG (and also Pawl Weller!) will perform at same time :(
